my old camera broke and I wanna buy a new. 

I want to go for a dslr cause they are truly amazing. Currently budget is a bit limited cause I also have to buy a car

Any good recommandations for a begginer and maybe not so expensive?

A friend of mine recommanded the Canon 350D from ebay..what do you think?

The 350D is pretty old. I've had the 300D myself and it was very slow (I've now upgraded to a 60D). You should check out the 1000D, or any alternative by Nikon in the same price range.

The best value for money entry level DSLR is probably the Nikon D3100 at the moment, and it's also well priced from Malta. I'd check that one out I have a Canon 550D and it's incredible however it's a bit more expensive than the D3100.

Is canon better than Nikon or is it just matter of opinion?

Matter of opinion. Both are equally great. Reason I went for Canon is that they have a wider range of products overall (bodies, lenses, flashes, accessories, etc.).
