I know that this might sound like a rant, but I have been playing some battlefield 3 lately and wanted to know if I was the only guy who noticed these things...
Long story short, I have always enjoyed playing the Call of Duty franchise, and used to play Call of duty 2 and Modern Warefare Multiplayer to kill some time. I did not really enjoy playing beyond call of duty modern warefare (MW2 and Black ops) reason being that I felt that the game was more about camping, spraying, perks and driving RC cars, which is not something I found enjoyable.
A few months back, I was told that battle field was way much better than the CoD series, since you had large maps, people actually cooperated with you, no campers and much more realistic shooting.
After playing, for a few months, these are some of the things that I have noticed:
- The Recon class (to my opinion) is very unbalanced. For those that have never played the game, you have 4 classes in the game. The Engineer Class allows you to shoot down anything, tanks, planes, etc. So you can put up a fight against any unit of the game. The Medic Class allows you to heal your mates and yourself. The gunner class provides loads of amunition and some heavy machinery which is also pretty effective at close and relatively long ranges. The recon class on the other hand, can only mark large targets and hope that other people from their own team shoot them down and provide spawn beacons, so basically, a sniper to function well needs a good team.
- Weapons seem to be a little bit messed up. I play almost exlusively as sniper, so I find it a little bit frustrating that, for a bolt action sniper, you need to hit someone exaclty in the head to have a 1 shot 1 kill hit(which seems to be the same for all the other weapons), unless they have been already hit. Although I am not expecting a CoD like 1 shot 1 kill ratio, I think it is not far fetched to expect that hitting someone in the face, neck or torso would result into a kill.
- People cooperate between themselves. From what I have seen, the only cooperation in the game is when two people get into one tank or helicopter. It is still pretty much everyone on his/her own.
- You do not have any campers. I noticed that you still get campers. You get either snipers which sit at the edge of the map and shoot aimlessly without ever hitting anything (which I do not really mind) and you have those that camp in Anti Air guns and tanks. I am not saying that people who use these machines are campers, jus that some of them sit at the edge of the map without moving for the entire duration of the map. Their job is to spray (not shoot, firing at the same position with a gattling gun for 15 seconds straight is not something I consider shooting) anything that gets close.
That being said, I did enjoy parts of the game. I found the ballistics fun and realistic, maps are not small and the engine used (Frostbite 2) is pretty much awesome. Like I said at the beginning, this is not much of a rant, but rather things that I noticed when comparing what I have been told with what I actually experienced. I just want to know if I was there is anyone else that either agrees of disagrees with what I have said.
