Napoleon Total War follows the career of the man who shaped the Modern World and introduced the concepts of the French Revolution to the rest of Europe. The game first distinguishing feature is the fact that it has 4 campaigns. 3 of these campaigns are based on the career of the Napoleon; The Italian Campaign, The Egyptian Campaign and the Moscow Campaign! Then there is the Campaign of the Coalitions, where you will take control of Britain, Prussia, Austria or Russia to defeat France! Everything is immensely true to actual historical events and one will notice a very large AI improvement as opposed to Empire! Firstly, the AI now acts cleverly in the Campaign and can actually invade islands! This was a problem for Empire where the AI never used ships to deploy troops, making island nations invulnerable.
The diplomacy system has been improved. Now, its not so hard to get certain deals and the AI actually makes an effort at offering well-balanced proposals. There are now new types of proposals, like the trade embargo, where you can convince a nation to stop trading with another. If dealt correctly, you could potentially destroy a nation's economy with this! Unlike Empire, you now have regular, story-based missions throughout the campaign which help you manage everything better and help you formulate a plan of attack.
Meanwhile another feature is the Napoleon's Battles mode, where you will fight in about 20 different Battles from Napoleon's Career, such as the Pyramids, Trafalgar, Leipzig and Waterloo. The Battles themselves are historically correct and hold different missions, such as killing a general or killing off a specific unit. The game provides a good challenge to all types of players. Finally, something new to multiplayer is the long awaited Multiplayer Campaign, where you can play Napoleon's campaigns as other factions, not just France. These provide new challenges and make things a little harder ;)
I would give Napoleon a 5 star rating. It is simply an amazing game and perfectly recreates the era named after one man; Napoleon! :)
