Know Your Lanthrax Admins: Warrant Class One (conductor) Krazykain
Now, I have been around for a while on LANThrax as well as its predecessor, GozoLAN. However, KrazyKain is one of the handful of veterans that has been around for even longer than I have. When this man speaks, you must listen - for the wisdom with which he speaks is one which derives from experience on the gaming scene.
How many of us say "Wow, this game really sucks". Well, this guy actually knows what it takes to make a game, he's actually working on his own. Read on, you might learn something.

KrazyKain can see into your soul. No, seriously.
|
| Q) Krazykain, you've been here for a while, but only a selective few truly know you. So please state your name and occupation for the LANThrax jury.
A) The Name is Luke Cassar, but online I go by the alias Krazy Kain Kravtich or KrazyKain for short (go figure!). As for my occupation I'm working in the Hilton IT department.
Q) You've been a member of the site since it's predecessor, GozoLan. How did you first hear about it and what was your reaction?
A) I believe that Osprey himself had told me about it. I was very excited because I love LAN parties (what self respecting gamer doesn't?)
Q) What did you think about the conversion to LANThrax?
A) Well I had mixed feelings. It does look cooler, and a bigger userbase is never a bad thing. However I was disappointed in that the focus of the site seemed to waver from LAN parties in Gozo to LAN parties in Malta, and eventually not much about LAN parties at all.
Q) Whats your favorite part of the website?
A) Thats a pretty hard question, I just love the site... The mini games are cool, but so is the news, and the forums... I cant really pick a favorite part sorry.

|
He’s smiling. But that’s because he knows your weakness for cookies, and is working to exploit it.
|
| Q) What's your favorite game of all time? PC or not
A) Ah how I hate getting asked this... Well I've been gaming for a long time so my fave's are mostly oldies, but I cant pick just one. I'll have to mention Another World, which is amazing. DooM still remains one of the best FPS's ever made (No other fps gets the same gameplay and feel)
Q) What PC game do you feel has really pushed the ticket in 2007?
A) I cant really answer that I'm afraid on account of my computer being so old and unable to play any of them.
Q) Which game do you feel will do the same this year?
A)Huxley An MMOFPS made on the unreal 3 engine. Either that, or Duke Nukem forever if finally comes out (yes I am one of the sad few who still wait for it)
Q) In recent months, you've mentioned that you were working on a game. How is that coming along?
A) Well, it's going well. But I put the project on hold. Currently I'm working on the engine, it's all behind the scenes stuff so theres no real 'gameplay' results, and it makes programming it a bit of a chore, so I took a break and started working on a much smaller scale game to heighten my spirits with results!
Q) What inspired you to create the game?
 |
|
Somewhat clean-shaved, KrazyKain loses his strength without his facial hair, which is the source of all his power.
|
| A) Well I mentioned that one of my all time fave games is Another World... well I recently purchased the 15 year anniversary edition and upon beating it I thought there are not nearly enough games like this. I want to make one :) (and maybe experiment with adding some sort of co-operative multiplay)
Q) Any tips for anyone who would want to learn to create their own games?
A) Well most important thing to do is keep working at it, think outside the box. Also, if you have many ideas, keep them organized, keep a notebook (or .txt file) with all your gaming ideas and do not attempt them all at once, or you will finish none of them, that used to be my biggest problem.
Q) One of your more evident passions is that of the "oddball" games, especially mods and freeware. What is it that you find attractive about them (besides the obvious)?
A) Haha! Well Freeware developers know they are going to earn no money on their game right? So there is nothing to stop them from taking risks and trying unique, original and untried ideas. So while a freeware game might have less quality then commercial games, it will likely have more originality.
Also as a games programmer myself I know how hard it is to make a game, and believe me its HARD!
So I appreciate the work that goes into these games. Thats why it irritates me a lot when people make such ignorant comments like “this game sucks, I'll just play Cod2” it really ticks me off.

KrazyKain’s poker face. He doesn’t lose all that often in poker, apparently.
|
| Q) Recently, there has been a lot of talk by PC developers that PC gaming is dying out due to piracy. What's your take on this?
A) Well, a few months ago I would have said that its not really true, but IronLore entertainment, the creators of Titan Quest (amazing game) declared bankruptcy because of pirates. So yes its a huge problem, and anyone reading this, PLEASE buy your games original.
Q) Do you think that the rapid advances in hardware and game requirements could be part of the reason the PC is "lagging behind" the consoles?
 |
|
Contrary to popular belief, Carlsberg doesn’t sponsor KrazyKain. HE sponsors Carlsberg.
|
| A) Well yes. However I really don't see games getting any more needy. I mean we have practically reached photo realism with our graphics, and game worlds are huge. In the end I'm gonna remain a pc gamer, and will one day actually upgrade it (when I can afford it)
Q) What is your favorite console, and why?
A) I'm surprised you have to ask that, I've made it more then a little clear that the Wii has turned me into a Nintendo fanboy! It's amazing! The motion controls have opened countless doorways to new gameplay ideas. And I've never really made a fuss over graphics so the ps3 and 360 haven't impressed me at all.
Q) Final question. How do you see LANThrax developing over the next year or so?
A) Well I'd like to see more focus on LAN parties again, especially in Gozo. But Osprey is very dedicated to the site so I know its going to prosper
Muchas gracias senor Krazykain, congratulations on your promotion, and best of luck with your future game projects With any luck, people will finally be able to say they know more about KrazyKain. Hell, I learned quite a bit myself.
As for me, I'm outta here. There are yet many n00bs which roam the arenas of Team Fortress 2 which have yet to feel my "burning" desire to meet them.
If you didn't understand that one, just buy the game.
S.E.A.L. out
