Gunpowder FRAGrance: The Aftermath

Yet another LAN party has come and gone. There were great expectations for this event, mainly due to the greater number of sign ups. Unfortunately, not all those who signed up where able to be present during all the hours of the event. Nevertheless, the event ran very smoothly without power interruptions or other mishaps.

Friday 31st March was supposed to be Half Life 2 day, yet, most of the time was spent playing Zero Hour or Call Of Duty 2. This was mainly due to the fact that not everyone had time to get Half Life 2 shipped in time. Shipping from abroad tends to take several weeks occasionally.

Saturday was supposed to be Battlefield 2 day, but again, there were some technical problems, namely, network disconnections (software problems - the new netgear switch worked like a dream). So attention went to the strategy classic Zero Hour and Call Of Duty 2. In the late evening, there was some mass murdering (and resurrection) in the form of Unreal Tournament 2004.

Sunday afternoon was spent playing Unrel Tournament 2004 until 1600hrs, which was Call Of Duty 2 tournament time. There was a short discussion about who would get the Lm25.66 Onvol gift voucher and it was decided that the prize is raffled no matter who wins the tournament. There was also some discussion (and a bit of confusion) about the choice of maps. The tournament started off with a Deatmatch to decide the team setups. Top two were Burning Sniper and Bejzinator (previosuly known as BejzBox) so they were automatically promoted to team leaders.

Which team was to have the upper hand was very clear from the beginning, with Burning Sniper's team owning every match, whether it was CTF, TDM or S&D, even though his team had 5 players against the opposing 6. Unsurprisingly, the final deatmatch between the members of the wining team was won (with a sizable lead) by Burning Sniper.

Now this was a bit of surprise - the prize raffle was also won by Burning Sniper (out of eleven). Looks like someone up there thought he really deserved it :).

Special thanks go to WiK for providing the router and Red, BejzBox and Rambo for attending for all the hours of the event. Those who signed up but did not show up (without ejecting) get a yellow card. It's not that I am pissed off, it's more like I am disappointed. Disappointed because it looks like lack of consideration towards one's peers when one does not show up without informing the administration. It is understandable that shit happens and that circumstances dictate that one cannot attend (after signing up for the event). These things can happen to anyone. That is why there is an eject buttton - so that if this happens, one can

eject and allow the administration to adapt to the new participant count. There is no penalty, or grudge, towards those who find out they cannot attend - on the contrary, one might even find some help from the peers to overcome the obstacle that would stop the ejected from attending. For example, one might eject because a memory chip goes haywire and there is no time to order a new one, and among the attendees there might be a good soul ready to lend that extra memory module.

The GozoLAN party is a group effort. Every member needs to contribute for the success of every project undertaken by the club. All I am asking for is more consideration, and respect, towards the other members.
