Saitek Pro Gamer Command Unit Review
As usual, this product is gently provided from Simark Supplies. It can be found here.
Today we will be reviewing another great product from Saitek: The Saitek Pro Gamer Command Unit. It's intention is to replace the keyboard to this piece of hardware. When I first looked at it, I must say I was pretty amazed. It looks sexy. However, looks is not everything, as we see later on in the review. The Command unit has 21 usable buttons, a small hat switch, and a button to toggle from RTS to FPS to normal. That button is pretty effective.

This is what I call a nightmare when it comes to drivers. I installed the drivers that came with the package, but they simply refused to work. The profile editor never came up and it never worked ingame. That part was really frustrating, I really pretended that the drivers that came out with the Command unit actually work. I popped down to the saitek site, did some clicks here and there, and the drivers were on my hard drive. I uninstalled everything (drivers, of course), and reinsallted it. This time though, they worked like a charm.

See, It’s not that big. Compare it with the usual stuff at home

Comfortwise, It's good, but not that good. If the palm rest (see pic) was moveable, it would be far more comfortable. The fact that it cannot be moved, makes the body stay in a uncomfortable position, thus after some hardcore fragging, your hand will surely start to ache. In fact, when I passed some time playing with it, my hands and shoulders stared to acheOn the other hand, the thumb part is moveable and it's very easy to manage with.
Most of the keys are correctly placed, except for the 17,18,19,20 (see pic). I need to strech my hand in order to reach these buttons, something that you don't wanna do while you're in the middle of the battlefield fragging your mates. The mini hat switch for your thumb is really innovative, it can come of great use while playing; switching your from your machine gun to your pistol or grenade is easier than ever with this hat switch.

See, it fits the hand pretty easily

Most of the times, I left it on the FPS setting, since I played FPS. But still, wanted to try the other settings. Changing the mode is very easy and on the fly, just move the button to your preferred setting and voila!
As a conclusion, all I can say is that this is a great add-on to your gaming gear. It has some cons, but by time, you overwhelm these, and becomes your favorite piece of hardware. Until next time guys, Bertugolu out ;)
Scores:
Look:95%
Comfort:75%
Durability:90%
Special functions:85%
Overall:86%
Pros: Innovative hardware, easy to use drivers, on the fly profiles, excellent hat-switch, attractive
Cons: Drivers are a pain in the neck to install, the hand rest is not moveable, needs time to get used to.
P.S: Sorry for the delay, but I was pretty busy lately

I've been using a similar device (Belkin Nostromo N52) for many years now and I swear by these gadgets as they make it so much easier to switch weapons/views/etc and is way more comfortable than a keyboard. BTW The pics are on the links at the top of the article

I have this very same keyboard but the drivers are not that good. They do conflict with other saitek products and had a long time to make both saitek products work correctly. The thumb buttons are an extra that I like, the rest is pretty much a keyboard. Wanna sell mine.if interested pm me
